Both Aussie teams have run qualifying at King of The Hammers this morning. On the short and sweet course, which included the huge drop down the Nitto waterfall Pete Antunac clocked a 2min 12.96sec in the #679 OPW – Offroad Performance Warehouse Ultra 4 early this morning which had him sitting 5th on the leader board. Ben Napier from BNMotorsports had a slightly more conservative run in the #4461 Penhall Fabrication Inc. Ultra4 during the first of two power hours finishing with a 2min 35.22sec.
Raul Gomez was the quickest qualifier on day one in the LS7 powered #4483 Gomez Bros Ultra4, ahead of his brother JP Gomez in second and #4493 Andrew McLaughlin in third. McLaughlin had luck on his side during his lightening quick run, landing on his wheels after a forward flip roll down a rock face just 30 seconds from the start. Adrenaline junkie, Tom Wayes wasn’t so lucky, after an aggressive stage a roll on a fast rutted sweeper ended his run early in the course. Tony Pelligrino was another notable DNF, pulling out with steering issues.
Final start order will be determined by part2 of the Power Hour tomorrow, where some of the outright contenders like Shannon Campbell will get their turn at the course.
