AJ Delivers At Goondiwindi

After launching with scrutineering at the Goondiwindi Showgrounds on Friday night, the 40th anniversary Gundy 400 got down to business with the Prologue, Goondiwindi Tyre Service Top Ten Shoot Out and first lap of the long course on Saturday morning.

Young gun, Troy Duff put his Prolite Jimco Racing Inc on pole position after the shoot out and led the field away this afternoon. However a flat tyre saw him relinquish the lead, with Aaron James & Pete Luckraftbringing the #93 Alumi Craft Race Cars home first on the road at the end of the day. #16 Talbot Cox and Angus Stainley are currently in second, ahead of the Team Taylor Razorback Racing Frames of Ryan Taylor and Michael Zacka in third. There was plenty of carnage out on the track, Brad Gallard had a major off into a tree in the #454 Geiser Truck during the prologue and Raana Horan crashed into a tree 65km in to the long course blocking the track and creating a traffic jam. Both teams are reported to be all OK after the incidents.

Sunday morning saw the start order adjusted after times were corrected due to Saturdays track blockage. Rhodes led the field away, with Aaron James in hot pursuit. James & Luckraft then took charge at the halfway point with a slick overtaking manoeuvre on Rhodes to finish in an overall time of 4:08:09.781 in the #93 Alumicraft to break Danny Brown and George Apted’s winning streak. Brown and Apted finished strong to finish second outright in the #42 Jimco. Rounding out the podium was the father and son team of Michael and Jae Collins in the #12 Chenowth.
