Witmore Enterprises & CanTeen “Come & Try” Day

Milbrodale was not only filled with the sound of fast & furious off road race cars on Sunday but also loud screams of excitement and laughter. It was an adrenaline filled day as the Hunter Valley Off Road Racing Association (HVORRA) hosted its annual Come & Try Day for Witmore Enterprises and CanTeen members and their families.

The aim of this annual event is to give Witmore Enterprises & CanTeen members and their families a chance to jump in the navigators seat of an off road race car and get their adrenaline pumping as some of NSW most experienced drivers take them for a couple of hot laps.

“The day provides a social event for these families to take their mind off their situations and spend the day enjoying themselves” said Karin McRae a member of the HVORRA. “Seeing smiles on their faces makes it all worthwhile.”

“It was a really unique and amazing opportunity to go around the track with the highly skilled drivers!! It is unbelievable what those cars and drivers can do – not scary at all just incredibly fun” explain one of the dare devils from CanTeen. “What a great way to feel alive”.

With the help of our sponsors HVORRA give all children, families and volunteers of the charities a gift and prepare a free BBQ lunch and refreshments for all in attendance. “Every year Thea makes the best cakes, slices, cupcakes for everyone for afternoon tea” explained Rikki Hedley who is a volunteer driver. “B2 also made Jelly this year which was a crowd favourite”

“What an amazing day! Had an incredible time flying around. The food and hospitality was fantastic, but most of all your incredible generosity, warm and friendly team has made this day memorable. Thanks to everyone” said Bronwyn, a CanTeen visitor.

This Charity Event is conducted under the guidelines of the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) & the Department of Sport & Recreation and is run at non-competitive speeds. “It’s a great event and we are so thankful to all the organisers, drivers & helpers that generously volunteer their time and their cars to make this day happen” said Jan Hedley the HVORRA President.

“A big thank you must go out to the landowners (Rod & Nolene Smith), the HVORRA members for the track preparation & to everyone who has volunteered their time ensuring yet another successful event. A huge thank you to Marion for everything she does, the event would not happen without her. Thank you to Chris, Emma and B2 for cooking the BBQ. Thea did an amazing job, as always, cooking beautiful sweets for the day. To all our drivers who volunteer their time and vehicles. And last but not least our amazing recovery team that came to support the event” said Jan Hedley.

The event could not run without the help and donations from Coal & Allied, AGL, NAB, Steggles, Coxs Bakery, Beneficial Safety, Singleton Heights Bakery, Trunks Gourmet Meats and Milbrotec.

Each year the HVORRA donates money towards both of their chosen charities, Witmore Enterprises & CanTeen. “The final amounts have not yet been calculated, please stay tuned to find out how much we have raised this year” said Jan Hedley the HVORRA President.
